The SICMA DRT 350 Planer Thicknesser can now be fitted with a Spiral Cutterhead boasting 90 carbide inserts, providing woodworkers with several advantages over their old planers and jointers.
Firstly, the Spiral Cutterhead produces a smoother finish with no tear-out due to each knife being positioned at a slight angle, resulting in a shear cut. Additionally, the staggered cut of the Spiral Cutterhead is superior to a single straight cut, eliminating tear-out and leaving an exceptional surface finish, even on highly figured hardwood.
Moreover, the Spiral Cutterhead significantly reduces noise as only a few knives cut at a time in a staggered manner. Additionally, the 15x15x2.5mm inserts are made of sintered tungsten carbide, which is much harder than high-speed steel, and each insert has four edges, providing more than ten times the life use of high-speed steel.
The Spiral Cutterhead is also easy to change, with precision ground knives interchangeable to a tolerance of +/-0.0004" or +/-0.01mm. With just a few minutes, the knives can be loosened, rotated 90° for a new edge, and tightened, making the process quick and hassle-free.
Furthermore, the Spiral Cutterhead produces thinner and shorter chips, making dust extraction more comfortable, and reducing the overall cost of use. The Spiral Cutterhead produces a smooth finish, reducing or eliminating sanding work, and doesn't require sharpening, making it a cost-effective investment that will pay for itself in a short amount of time.
